Good question Miguel! ORCA - One Regional Card for All – is the new transit fare payment system for the Puget Sound. It has taken over for 300 different types of fare payment products to allow you to pay for all of your bus, train, light rail and walk-on ferry trips on seven of the region’s transit agencies with the same card. You can load your ORCA card with either a monthly pass or an e-purse that let’s you pay as you go. To learn more about how you can use the ORCA card, visit www.orcacard.com.

Thanks for the question Steven! There are a number of ways you can save money by using your ORCA card:

1) You can save money with an ORCA card by purchasing a monthly pass if you ride frequently. With a monthly pass, you pay a one time fee to use the card unlimitedly for that month at the fare value you choose. If you use transit more than 4 times a week then you will save money.

2) As of January 1, 2010, interagency transfers are no longer being accepted without an ORCA card. That means if you pay with cash you will not be able to get a paper transfer from your driver. However, if you have an ORCA card then your transfer will be accepted and will automatically be calculated on your card.

Does the ORCA card provide any sort of discount? Is it simply a pre paid card or are there deals?
